Winston Churchill

Churchill’s real wit was sharp enough that, much like Wilde, almost any well-turned insult or one-liner from the 20th century eventually gets credited to him — whether or not there’s a transcript, letter, or contemporaneous account backing it up. He said an enormous amount over a very long public career, which makes separating the real lines from the folklore genuinely difficult.Where I could find a documented source — Hansard, a memoir, a recorded speech — that’s linked in the post. Where a famous Churchill line turns out to have no real paper trail, the post says so.
